96th & Lee Blvd. Master Plan Next Steps

We wanted to share the following letter from Diane Stoddard, Leawood's City Administrator, regarding the master planning process for the 96th and Lee Blvd. site...

I am writing to update you on the City of Leawood’s progress regarding the 96th and Lee Boulevard site. On May 5, 2025, the Governing Body approved the design services contract for the master planning of this site. The master plan, once completed, will provide a plan for future uses/improvements to the site that can be phased in over time. Below is a list of the key benchmarks in this process along with their anticipated dates. Please note that the dates are subject to change- so please check the City’s website for details.

June 12, 2025, 5:30 pm in the Council Chambers on the first floor of City Hall - The design consultant will be presenting (4) concepts to the Park Advisory Board at their regularly scheduled meeting.

June 16, 2025, 6:00 pm in the Council Chambers on the first floor of City Hall - The design consultant will be presenting (4) concepts at the Governing Body Work Session to explore the proposed uses being considered. Each concept will include an itemized cost estimate. After discussing these concepts, the governing body will provide direction on the preferred concept. This direction may include a combination of the concepts presented. Although Governing Body Work Sessions are open to the public, there is not a designated opportunity for the public to speak during these work sessions.

July 8, 2025, 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm in the Oak Room at City Hall- The design consultant will be hosting an Interact meeting to share the preferred master plan concept. This will be an open house format allowing attendees to pose questions and comments about the master plan. Attendees can come and go anytime during this timeframe.

August 26 2025, 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall - The master plan will be considered during the August Planning Commission meeting, along with a summary of the comments received during the Interact meeting. This meeting is open to the public, and there is a designated opportunity for public input at the Planning Commission meeting.

September 15, 2025, 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall - If the Planning Commission recommends approval of the master plan, the design consultant will present the master plan, and the feedback received from the Interact meeting to the Governing Body for its consideration. This meeting is open to the public, and there is a designated opportunity for public input at the governing body’s regular sessions.

I know many of you have already devoted countless hours discussing how this space could best serve our community’s needs. We encourage you to attend the Interact meeting to share your thoughts on this important part of our great city. Please feel to contact my office if you have any questions.
